Kitchen Planning - Be in the know

If you follow our posts, you’ll know how much we stress how important the kitchen is. So, we’ve compiled some tips to help you when the overwhelming kitchen planning takes over.

  1. Don’t shy away from numbers.. they’re important to us. When we ask you about your budget, we aren’t using it as a ploy to overcharge, we are using it as a tool to ensure you get the best possible elements included in your design. Primarily, a budget is used to gauge where we are in regards to our different door ranges. If you want a traditional shaker kitchen but your budget can’t stretch to a painted door then we have the perfect alternatives in our PVC range, for example. Having an idea of your numbers also allows us to include more internal drawers and pull-outs or cut down on certain elements. As an independent, family run business, we pride ourselves on creating truly unique budget-friendly kitchens that our customers can love for years to come.

  2. Aesthetics are important but so is performance. You need your space to preform to you and your family needs. The traditional work triangle when designing a kitchen allows for the fridge, sink and hob/oven to resemble an imaginary triangle. It’s a theory which has worked well over decades past but now you have to think of how your kitchen performs. Is it solely for cooking? Are you entertaining? Is it a multi-functional work area? Consider how your family looks now and may look in the future, have you enough storage included or plenty of counter space?

  3. Don’t be in a panic. Kitchens are expensive and what is the point of rushing into something just because you need something new. Ask the questions, evaluate the design, don’t be afraid to change your mind. It’s so much more than just designing a space and getting new cabinets. You’ve to choose worktops, handles, sinks and other accessories which will also impact how your overall design will look. Take the time with your designer to go through all the samples to try visualise your overall design.

  4. Be open-minded and don’t fear change. Besides new builds who have the joy of a blank canvas, many people are renovators. If you’re lucky enough, your kitchen works perfectly and just needs to be updated. However, if it doesn’t then you need to think about why it’s not working for you and if any sort of renovations and demolishing was possible, would it work better? Many customers have came to us in the past with big wishlists and ideas but don’t have the space in the existing to make those a reality, yet won’t entertain the idea of removing a wall in exchange for the space, light and functionality that they desire.
